bewitchingbritain:  This MUST be the world’s smallest inhabited island. There is one red house on this little piece of land in Newquay (a harbour town in Cornwall, England) and it is only connected to the mainland by that tiny bridge. Remember the nutter that tried to invade Sark?  (post from 26 October) This is the sort of Island he would go after too! And he would send the fellow living there a telegram a week ahead of time informing him of his dastardly plans. (bigaldavies on flickr)

The loch reportedly contains a water horse, a common form of the kelpie; a nasty mythological beast that disguises itself convincingly as one of your favourite My Little Ponies.      However! You can keep yourself from being drowned and eaten by a water horse if you recognise its ‘constantly dripping mane’ (ewwww) and seal-like skin ‘smooth and cold as death’.(this from wikipedia) Although if you got THAT close I think the kelpie would dunk you down and eat you up anyway.      This post is in honour of tipthewink, whose family hails from the stunning West Highlands, and who (tragically) has lost two second cousins, a great-uncle, and a sassy stepsister to the jaws of a kelpie.
